Terrific idea, as well as directions.
I believe I'm going to do this for Christmas gifts - only instead of a maple leaf, I'll draw a fat Christmas tree and use your directioins.
Thanks for sharing.

GrammaBabs 09-11-2011 12:27 PM

Thank you for a great Tutorial! They are lovely! I am going to make some of these for Christmas gifts.

sewlisa 09-11-2011 05:04 PM

My Mom would love them. She collects maple leaf items since my family used to make syrup. (We haven't made any since the tenant burned down the sugar shack looking for something amongst the papers and wood with a lighted match. Accident? Hmmm...)

Cheryl, I don't know if there is any kind of an option like that linked into the Quilting Board. I would just left click your mouse to highlight and select whatever parts you want, then right click it and click on "copy". Then you can open a new Microsoft Works or Word document and paste each section into that. It works on the pictures too. Glad you liked this enough to want to do that! Hope that helps!

BuzzinBumble 09-11-2011 05:31 PM

Thank you everyone for all the really nice things you've written. It makes me very happy to know you all liked this idea and tutorial! :D :D :D

Hi QuiltE and thank you too! We are definitely influenced by all things Canadian. Maybe that's why I chose a maple leaf, eh? LOL! We can see your country every day right across the river and half our shoppers in this area are from Ontario.

So I told myself “Lara, Step Away From the Computer”, went for a walk outside in the sunshine, got a real maple leaf and made up my own pattern. I found some fabrics that would hide stains and wash up well and then made up a few maple leaf mug rugs for our family room. My DH even said he loves them!

So I am now posting this for anyone else who would also like to make them. Seems like an Autumn-y thing to do. If any of you do make one, I would LOVE to see your pictures and see how they come out in different fabrics.

Please bear with me while I post the directions and pictures, as I’m going to post them one step at a time to keep them in the right order.

Beautiful!

They turned out very very nice!

Quiltbeagle 09-12-2011 04:53 AM

Thank you for posting this and for the template! I can have autumn again though I'm here in Florida now, and I've sure missed the colors and crisp air from when I lived in the northeast. Where did you get your fabric? I really like that gold and green paisley and would love to find some.

QuiltE 09-12-2011 04:54 AM

I did an autumn leaf wall hanging last year ... batiks worked well too.

Must dig it out, hang it up ... and photo shoot and show it to you! :)

katkat1946 09-12-2011 05:00 AM

The fabrics you chose are absolutely perfect for these leaves. Many thanks for the tutorial.

eimay 09-12-2011 05:01 AM

Absolutely great. I plan on doing some maybe tonight (depending on how tired I am after work) or definitely on my days off! Thanks. How about thinking up some more designs?

Roberta 09-12-2011 05:10 AM

I just love this tute. Thanks so much and it's at the top of my "to do" list as small gifts for friends this fall.

GJoyce 09-12-2011 05:26 AM

Your directions couldn't be better. A five year old could follow these. GREAT Job !!
