Thank you the tute; the word document; and the PDF file!

Cute.

thanks - another neat way to bring fall to us "desert dwellers" who rarely see any natural traditional falls colors on our trees! We can create a whole bunch of fall leaves and don't have to worry about wind blowing our leaves around after we have gotten them in to a pile. A set of these would make a nice little gift too. Package them up with a couple of cute mugs, add a box of tea or gourmet coffee, and a box of cookies or biscotti - plop it all in a cute basket (How about in one of those fabric bowls?) - wrap it and you're good to go.

Thank you, Kim!

Thank you so much for tut. I am going to make these with Shamrock pattern. Now to find a good fat picture pattern to copy.
|
very nice, thank you
|
Does it matter what kind of batting you would use for the leaves? I only have the warm and natural in my stash.
|
Adding my thanks for a great idea and perhaps the best tutorial I have seen! You have a gift for making each step clear and simple to follow. Many many thanks!!! I, too, will be joining the throng and making these :-)

Great tutorial, I've bookmarked it. I'd like to make them a bit larger or even larger still for place mats or sewn leaf point, edge to edge for a table runner ... you've really got the creative juices flowing.
Can't wait to see photos of what others have done with this tutorial. Thank YOU so much for sharing with us. |
Very cute! Thanks for the great tute!
|
Dear BuzzinBumble... Thank you so much for the tut and pattern. I made one and have a question. I might have missed it, but what do you do with the "V" part at the bottom. It's almost impossible to turn the edges in. I would like to make more to set my table for Thanksgiving. Thank you in advance for suggestions.
|
Patch, any batting will be fine! i use W&N 95% of the time.

I have two other suggestions that might solve this problem for anyone who runs into it. 1) Do you have washable fabric glue, such as No Fray? You could coat each edge of the "V", top and bottom and seal them shut together, then when it dries, trim it nice and neat. That might salvage the leaf you had troubles with. (Which many of us would Love to see when you get it fixed up!) ;) 2) The second suggestion is for when you are in the trimming stage. It might help if we amend the instructions to say that it would be good, only at the v-bottom to leave a 1/4" seam allowance instead, to make it easier to roll under. And to put a little snip in the tip of the "V" with your scissors. (I will doctor a picture to show what I mean) I'm sorry that you had difficulty and can easily see how. But I am glad you liked the leaf idea enough to want to use it for your Thanksgiving table! Hmmm... now you've got me thinking that I would like to do the same thing! Correction to directions, with my apologies |
Kim & Marcia, could you add this step to your Work and pdf versions or is that too hard? Thanks for doing those for Everyone!
|
i think i can do that...hang on.

Everyone who didn't see these yet, go to page 13 and take a gander at carolaug's cool blue jean versions of maple leaf coasters! Great job Carol! By the way, I would not have wanted to turn blue jeans inside out either! I wonder if they could be made with frayed edges? That would be neat too. |

The way your stitching stands out in contrast is really nice. I wonder if we could do it with machine embroidery thread to make the veining stand out even more? |
i am going to try some sparkle thread when i do mine..lol
back to quilting ..! |

you gave the margins, i should of paid attention..when i made it into a pdf file, the leaf is not on one page alone. i have to work on it later,to get it fixed, for printing out.
i am so pdf and "word" challenged! for that matter,"paint" is not a strong point for me either! Off to quilting for the morning! see ya all later! :-D |

I'm late in responding to this request, but I have now put the corrections in the Word format. The entire document is now 10 pages instead of the original 8, but the pictures are larger. I hope I inserted it in the right place. Lara, if I put it in the wrong place, let me know. I put the corrections in after step 5. I can change it if it needs to be after a different step. For anyone that only wants to copy it from the corrections step forward, start copying from page 3 continuing to page 10. Or you can just copy page 3 and insert it in your pattern. Have a Blessed Day! Please look on page 19 for the final version of this downloadable tutorial. Maple Leaf Mug Rug Tutorial - corrected Word Doc |
Perfect gifts for SIL's for taking me to Vermont to see all the leaves changing last yr....can't wait to start on these as a reminder of our trip when I visited them in NY...THANKS !!

What an awesome idea. We have a Harvest Dinner coming up at the school and this would be a great door prize to win...so I guess I will be making a few sets to donate to the school for door prizes.
Thanks for the great idea! DeMaris |

Have a Blessed Day! What a mix up... my apologies! :( I think that the correction best fits at the beginning of step 7. Where it says "Cut away the excess fabric, leaving a 1/8 inch seam allowance." Could you both then add the change like so?: "Please note: where the v- shaped opening is, it works better to leave a 1/4" seam allowance and snip into the tip of the "V" as illustrated in the picture below. This helps when it comes time to turn that edge under." Then add the doctored picture just above step 7's picture? Do you think that will work well? And Kim ;) You are not .pdf challenged in my book! Just super busy! You both are Complete Gems for taking the time like this to help everyone out! Mucho Gracias!   |
Suzi, book marking the page, the page you want to book mark will have the book mark button on the top of the page on the left hand side, click on it and watch for the page to offer you a save button, click on that and its saved. If you miss it go back to the page or tute you want and start all over, if you do not click on the save button it won't go into your book marks. jigs1354
Don't know if this was answered or not, so if it was, here it is again for the new kids on the block. :)
