Cut 4 inch fabric squares and sew exactly as shown on page one in the demonstration photos. You will end up with four
2 1/2 inch square triangles with less than 1/8 inch over the 2 1/2 inch so you can square up each one. I just made one and it came out fine. Hope this helps. |

Thank you for posting this. |
Okay,I'm new here,my excuse for the following question. If,I saw the block on all sides,at what point do I separate them to end up with 8 half square triangles.Thanks.

drose, if you click on "page 1" of this thread you will find photos of the sewing and cutting. Check top and bottom of this page to find the "Go to Page:" option numbers.

so with this method, I dont have to deal with that 7/8 inch added on to the size I need to make? for example 6 1/2 + 7/8 for a half triangle.

This is great!

OK OMA66 - does that mean you became an Oma at 66?? from Holland?? My mom was Oma to my kids... I'm my grandkids' "Gus" ...that was my oldest Grandson's name for me - Oma was still around, Evan was 16mo old and couldnt say Gramms.
On another note...is there a formula for this method of HST?? I know if you do one block at a time you are supposed to add 7/8" to the finished size. It kindof looks like you need the diagonal measurement of the square plus 1/2" ??? [which would be the square root of twice the finished block size... calculators are good for this one...] |
Have been fighting with triangles forever !!!! This looks so easy, can't wait to try it

I just learned how to do this method for half sq triangles..Luv it |
Thanks for sharing. Makes HST a lot less intimidating.
