I never realized you could strip piece these blocks, that is great!!!

KandiKane 03-14-2011 06:20 PM

Looks great and easy thank you for the tute, love your colors

quilterpam 03-14-2011 06:44 PM

I think I get it...going to try it tomorrow to make sure

quilterpam 03-14-2011 06:47 PM

What length are your strips? Are they not all different lenghts?

bSmall 03-14-2011 07:17 PM

I like the technique, I have had to be very careful to square up each block when I have use narrow strips.

wildyard 03-14-2011 07:35 PM

Question, if one is going on a more scrappy look, would you just switch fabrics at the end of each strip and continue on with the other blocks? Or would you limit how many blocks you used each strip for?

michellee 03-14-2011 07:46 PM

this was the first log cabin quilt i made. I got the book by Elenor Burns "Quilt in a day". Shows this technique..instructions so clear.....each step has a picture...You can't make a mistake...except with this first quilt i learned that 1/4" means 1/4". I learned that lesson...I've made others and they came out perfect.....

I love this technique. I first learned of it many years ago from Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day projects. I like the fact that I can be accurate AND fast!

I used width of fabric. That said, I used the width of whatever I was using. Fat quarters, leftovers, or the full width of fabric.

If going more scrappy, I would limit the number used from each fabric.

I've got a bucket full of 2" strips. going to divide them up in lights & darks and see what I get. Thanks for taking the time to make an easy to understand tutorial.

ann clare 03-15-2011 04:33 PM

I use this method.

chichimamma 03-16-2011 07:42 PM

That's how I do it!!!!

craftybear 04-30-2011 12:08 AM

BATIKQLTR 05-02-2011 06:39 AM

Wow, this is a big time saver. I love the log cabin pattern, but it gets kind of tedious making it block by block.

Love your floral fabric. I'm going to try this today.

Great Tutorial!!!

owlvamp 05-02-2011 12:15 PM

It is good to see that others also made their first cabin using Eleanor Burns method of Quilt in a Day. That was about 20 years ago and the method never gets old. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Deb: I just want to thank you for this tut. I went by your instructions and I just finished the most beautiful quilt I've ever made. When I saw yours, I knew right then that this is the log cabin that I had been looking for.

I wanted to share my glory with you because you're the reason I created this quilt. You and the Lord! Thanks again! :)
