Maybe you could make one or two to give to an organization to auction for charity or give to a hospital or police department for emergencies. I cannot wait to start making them.

Enjoyed your tutorial. Good job. I've made several rag quilts and they were well received. Made one for my sister from "old" jeans of her husbands, daughter and son. Even used the back pockets from the jeans for several of the blocks. She loved it. Said that when she'd get down and out she'd wrap up in that quilt and immediately feel better. Thanks for sharing your expertise. RD

We are thinking about making some quilts for auction at our local Relay for Life walk in September. One in Michigan State fabrics and one in University of Michigan fabrics. (we happen to live right between both universities... loyalties are divided around here). We also are in the process of making a rag quilt using all the leftovers and scraps of all the other raggy quilts we have made.

I have cut up jeans into squares to do this. Would I need to back them and suff with batting or will that be too thick? Do you think old jeans are ok to use?

I have always used old jeans. They're soft and still strong. I use a low loft batting. Some people don't use any batting. I have used both flannel and coton. Both hold up very well. If you use batting it will be very warm. It will still be warm without it also. It's a personal choice.

I made one with blue jean squares and flannel backing and alternated the seams, one to front, one to back, and it folds like an accordian. But went together quickly and it is tough material, but gets softer with washing.
