Default Rhonda's Electric Quilt Class - Week 13 - One Patch Quilts

I was asked a couple of questions about working on one patch quilts so here I am going to post the answers with pictures.

One question was - Can I find and use a hexagon one patch on EQ7? Yes all Eqs have the same list of one patch quilts and hexagons are one of them.

So here you will see how to find and make a one patch quilt

Click on Worktable and choose Work on Quilt

Next click on New Quilt and then find One Patch Quilt in the menu

You will see this next. It is a hexagon one patch quilt

Click on layout under the quilt and this box will pop up

You can see the first arrow is where you choose the number of blocks you want in your quilt. Then the next arrow you see the shape. And the last arrow is showing the tab to change the size of the shape.
The hexagon is one shape that instead of choosing width and height you need to choose the length of one edge. (One of the sides)

Now Here is a different shape - a Trapezoid
You can choose in this list what shape you would like to use

This one you choose width and height to choose the size.

    The Next Question

I was asked if you can use the precut pkgs such as the Layer Cakes and Charm Packs to make a one patch quilt.

Here is a site I found where you can follow a link for 3 of the top manufacturers to find their new fabric lines. You can download the ones you want and then import the fabrics into your EQ.
    http://support.electricquilt.com/Dow...-into-EQ7.ashx

If you are using a precut that you bought you can scan the various prints into your pc and then import them into your EQ.

Here is a one patch quilt using 5” squares

So here you need to go to New Quilt and then choose Horizontal

Then you can leave the sashing or take it out depending on what you want to make your quilt look like.

Then if you are using a Layer Cake you can make your blocks 10”. If your blocks are 10” without any seam allowance then you should make your size of blocks 9.50 so allow for seam allowances.

If you are using a Charm Pack then make your blocks 4.5 allowing for seam allowances on 5” squares.
Choose how many blocks you want in your quilt.

Under the box you will see the size your quilt will be.

Thanks Rhonda, I hadn't even thought about one patch quilts. So glad you are doing these tut's because there is no way I would have spent this much time in the EQ book.

Thanks Rhonda, You are doing a great job. I've been playing with my EQ every day. Are you going to have a class on import a picture or embroidery pattern?

You're welcome Katie. I actually only look in the book when I can't find something. Or I want to make sure all the versions have the same features that I am presenting. I'm learning alot too as I do these.

In the classes so far I have only done the basics of each lesson. In Class 4 I covered importing fabric but I plan to get into the more advanced ways of using the features when we have covered all the basics first. So yes I will be covering how to import pictures and embroidery etc later on.
