    much of the fabric from the 60's & 70's was printed in a design that appeared inside of a block. it presents the problem of appearing crooked and needs extra care to be cut carefully. many avoid directional fabric for this reason. with a little extra effort, you can make it look pretty near perfect. the only exception is if it has been printed off center by the maker.

    if you look at the bottom of the grid, on the left you see the grid is not going through the center of the flowers as it is on the right hand side

    this is how you want it to look, the grid runs even along the fabric. as long as the other three sides are even, the fix is simple

    while holding the grid lightly in position, use your other hand to tug on the fabric the slightest bit. your intention is to ever so slightly move the line of that fabric to "straighten" the fabric so that you may have a straight cut
