Wow!!! you ARE a fast worker...good fun isn't it...did it drive you potty twisting and turning all the different quarter blocks or were you a clever girl and made up each block of four as you went???? I didn't as I want a more random effect and really got my knickers in a twist!!

Lovely to see the kids up close, what a pair of cuties :D :D :D

I love the colours you chose...are you going to add more to it or was it a practice piece?? :D

Izy, I just went for your placement of pinwheels alternating with HSTs (!) in a square - didn't want to overcomplicate things! I kept everything laid out on the table as I worked but I did have to use the seam ripper once after joining two blocks wrong  !

Lily is rather fond of it (pink in it so a winner as far as she's concerned!) so I thought I might do an appliquéd hearts and flowers type border and hang it in her (pink!) bedroom. OF COURSE I'll be doing that by hand, and the quilting so don't expect it tomorrow :D

PS thanks all for your kind comments - I had to say 'pooh bum' to get the kids to smile so nice!

HST are all in the practicing. A few years ago I made a GD's graduation with nothing by HSTs. Can't remember the pattern, but it was in a magazine -- [perhaps a McCall quilting magazine]. It was a queen size. I got to be pretty good after a while. One of these glorious days, I'll run across the magazine -- I'm pretty sure I didn't get rid of it, since I rarely do that. I like Izy's method. Works fine for me.

No pressure by the way....look forward to seeing it tomorrow :D :D :D
If it were hand pieced, what would happen when the 9-patch was cut in quarters? I don't hand piece, but it seems that the running stitch would be broken and ripping out would occur. :?:

Cathie....I just happened upon this looking for ways to use up charm squares....can't take the credit for it, but I forgot to save the link....I see stuff and think yeah I can do that....I look at so much stuff on the net...it's a wonder I get any sewing done, thanks for the hugs :D  :D

Gail...When I am handpiecing, I do 3 or 4 running stitches, then a back stitch, and if you knew that you would be cutting thru whilst creating the D9patch you could reinforce the area to be cut with extra back stitches to strengthen it until it was restitched I suppose...just a thought :D
