Does it really matter what the item is called?
In most cases, I think when someone calls a "quilt" something other than "quilt," it is not meant as an insult.
Many people may not know the difference between them - and "Cover" and "Blanket" are quite generic and are used as a term for something one gets under or wraps around oneself to stay warm.
Such as saying "chocolate cake" instead of "Great Grandma's Superlative Triple Chocolate Cake Made Only for Birthdays Cake"
Sometimes some people are more comfortable with a generic term if they are unsure of or don't know a specific one.
I'm getting old(er) - so I'm trying to save my "get my undies in a wad" for things that REALLY matter.

LOL, OK, your reasoning is sound but I can't help it. When ever someone refers to a quilt as anything other than a quilt I visibly wince. I don't get my panties in a bunch and usually I am not emotionally upset about it but it does cause this involuntary reflex. I know it is irrational, just like my groundless, senseless, over the top fear of spiders but I just can't help it.

1) Refuses to wash fabrics before cutting them
2) Thinks one can purchase (good) quality fabrics ONLY at a LQS

I myself will sometimes tell my dogs or my husband to "quit hogging all the covers" or "get off my blanket" :)
Hate to cause you pain though, but I do not wash first..too much trouble for ME and I like the "shrunken" effect :)
