Since many of us rely on our cars it is important to be safe on the road, especially for women. This site is geared to teenagers but has oodles of information about car maintence with videos, safe driving tips and personal safety when driving.

I have one GIANT tip for females as well as males who drive a car.
Get out the handle to your car jack or tire iron - the thing you will use to take off the lug nuts if you have a flat. Find or buy a piece of sturdy steel pipe at least 25" long that will fit over the end of it.
This will give you extra leverage. The guys who put tires on your car use an air wrench and really sock it on tight. Not even Mr. T. could take the lug nuts off without another air wrench.
When you get a flat on the road, if you or a helper can change it right there, you saved the cost of a tow. If no one can get those lug nuts off, there is a totally unnecessary $50-75 charge to tow it to someplace that has an air wrench.
Put the pipe over the handle and step on it if necessary - works every time. The power of physics.

The pipe over the car jack handle is a great idea. We had a flat way out on a lonely road and my husband used a flare for their heat which enabled him to remove the nuts to get them off.
