DGD birthday gifts - sewing-not quilting
Last week my DGD turned 2yo. I made her two outfits. I had some border print fabric left over from my first DGD about 10 yrs ago. I have a pattern for a shorts outfit for size 2. Patterns tend to run large, so I made a test outfit out of other fabrics. I had to keep cutting it down it was so large. That was so much of an effort, I decided to make her a dress and bloomers out of the good fabric. Very easy, right? Not! The bloomers size was right on since I had the shorts already worked out. But I goofed an made the dress too tight, no room in the hips to go over the bloomers. No time to fix before the party. So they left it with me to fix. I instered a front panel and pleated it, adding buttons to help disguise the insert. DD picked it up last evening and was very pleased.

Very cute outfits and very clever solution to a common problem. I too have a little grand daughter and have difficulty with sizing. Usually I make her outfits too large hoping to avoid the issue you had and having to work out the fix to make it wearable. So in the end I'm sometimes disappointed with the sizing of the outfit I made until she grows into it.
