G20 Summit - Toronto not so clean
#1
I've watched with horror all afternoon - Toronto is hosting the G20 Summit. Toronto is typically a quiet, clean, safe city.
There was a peaceful protest planned today by a number of groups, about 10,000 people - families - voicing their concerns over women's rights, worker's rights, etc. Their peaceful protest was highjacked by hoodlums - some sort of Anarchist protest group - have been smashing storefronts, burning police cars.
My heart is heavy with sadness that this senseless violence has found its way to our beautiful and peaceful city.

I was in Toronto today but not near the downtown area. The rest of the city was calm with virtually no disruption in traffic or everyday living. However, upon seeing the reports from downtown, it would appear that there was damage and general unrest happening. This was the result of hooligans and not legitimate protesters who remained peaceful and focused. These few 'protesters' are hell bent on just destroying property. An excuse to cause havoc and not to bring attention to any human rights issues. A shame in that real issues are put to the side in order to deal with disruptive individuals who stand for nothing. If you stand for something you would not be afraid to uncover your face and use words instead of weapons.

The boy's dad works next to the Metro Convention Center, CN Tower and in front of the Roger's Center. His office is in the "red" zone. He wasn't allowed to go to work thursday, friday and he's off tomorrow (monday) too.
We watched all of the carryings on, and are appalled at the behavior of these people. The sad thing is that they don't even live here!
I'll be glad when everything is over, the fences are taken down, and everything returns to normal!!!
