CHASE Visa has an alert system that send me a email and a phone message telling me about the purchase within minutes of the purchase. Love this service. Also, when ordering online, as soon as you hit submit on your order go to tools on the menu, Internet Options link, then Content, Then Clear SSL, Hit that button and then OK. This will clear your information from the internet right after your purchase, otherwise it stays out there for anyone to access...for a while.

I did too, but my card had already declined a purchase so I knew something was wrong. I hadn't heard about connecting threads but its been months since I've ordered from them. Discover has been great tho, they catch it before I even know what happened!

I just go into my discovercard.com and click on "manage account" and "secure on-line purchases". It will ask you to enter your log-in info and then takes you to a small screen that says "generate secure account #". Each time you do this you can create another "secure" account number that is tied to your account, but the number itself can only be used one time or with one vendor. I have generated separate account numbers for any recurring payments as well as for certain vendors I frequently do business with. I keep a log, so if my account is hacked I know where it came from. I was recently hacked thru I-tunes, so trust me I know. Discover was amazing, I had a new card in the mail the next day and all was well. That's when I decided to get separate account #s for things just like this. If you are hacked, you don't need to get a new account # because only the account listed (which is not your actual #) can be de-activated and your account remains intact.

I have, but I always use a feature my bank offers called a "shopsafe" card when I shop on line. It generates a one time use card that won't compromise my whole account should that card get hacked. I highly recommend this for anyone buying anything on the internet. (I rarely use Paypal since they have had many problems with accounts being compromised in the past as well.)
