Laptop owners....Please Read!!!!!!
I don’t know if this really happened…but I suppose it could so I am passing this on…and it could happen to anyone not just kids…so don’t fall asleep reading this email if you are in bed…
GOOD INFORMATION EVERYONE WITH A LAP TOP NEEDS TO KNOW!
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A LAPTOP YOU MAY KNOW SOMEONE THAT DOES. THEN MAYBE THEY KNOW SOMEONE THAT DOES!
Please take the time to read this!
Very important!!!
Tell your sons/daughters about it.
Arun came home and had lunch with his dad and then his dad left for work. He decided to take a nap while waiting for his mom to come home from work.
Neighbors called 911 when they saw black smoke coming out of the house. Arun died in the three year-old house. It took several days of investigation to find out the cause of the fire. It was determined that the fire was caused by the laptop in the son’s bed. When a laptop is on the bed the cooling fan does not get the air it needs to cool the computer and it overheats. That is what caused the fire.
Note: The bedding blocks the air intake vent below the cpu fan. When the laptop is placed on a flat surface i.e. on desk/table, there is a gap between the desk surface and the base of the laptop casing which allows air to flow/suck in through the air intake vent by the cpu fan to cool the cpu.
He did not even wake up to get out of the bed. He died of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
The reason I'm writing this to all of you is that I know many people use their laptops in bed. I've even seen folks place a pillow on their lap and then place their laptop on top of that for comfort. This will definitely cause the computer to overheat.
Let us all decide and make it a practice not to do that. The risk is very real. Let us make it a rule not to use a laptop in bed or put a computer on a bed with
flammable blankets and pillows around.

It will cause a harddrive to crash if it overheats and usually the computer dies and cuts off before it will catch on fire. I think whatever it was laying on had a low flash point. Make sure you kids don't leave a turned on laptop on top of their beds or on paper.

Thanks for this important info "Ditter". My husband and I both have a laptop board that we use with our computers. I must confess when we first got our first laptop I use to use it in bed on Sunday mornings. Never gave a thought that it might overheat and catch fire. Scary.

The fire was determined not to be caused by the laptop nor the cell phone. What BelloBo said about the hardrive crash is complety right, and it can wear your fan out faster. My brother owns his own computer repair shop..he said the same thing.. they all will over heat and crash first.
