Move Over Honey BooBoo For Buckwild in West Virginia
I started the thread on HBB. This morning I was watching the Today show and there was a segment about a new show starting tonight on MTV called Buckwild. It takes place in West Virginia and they showed a clip of a dump truck full of water, and these kids jumping off the roof of the garage into the dump truck.
As someone who has lived in Iowa and Kentucky I know how offensive these shows are to the perception of the people of the state. West Virginia is the same way. I know it's all about the mighty dollar but it's frustrating to me when I see lifestyles ridiculed in the name of a reality show.

I agree ... but as my husband is quick to remind me when I see these trailers and remark on it ... "normal people don't make good television". If they did a show on me, I have to admit it would be pretty darn boring
ETA - neither my husband or I consider these programs "good television". We just mean that it won't sell.

The fact is if you're not between 18 and 44 the television industry doesn't care what you watch or what you like. Watch what you like and ignore the rest. It does no good to rant about something you can't change.

I, too, now live in FL. Every Christmas my darling, most loved (by my mother) brother gives my husband or me a gift that says "red neck" somewhere on it. One year they gave him a t-shirt that said, Spam Boy." It's okay once, but not year after year. I am saving their gift of "red neck wine glasses" to serve them their water in next time they visit from CT!! Can't wait! Or else I may 'forget' they gave them to us and regift them to them when THEY move to FL! There are people who are too dumb to recognize a stereotype!!

I'm not sure if it's the mentality of our country, our citizens at 'the top', be it TV or politics..but we are in a bad way, we are in a sad way. I don;t know how to get out of it. Hopefully my family values stay with my family. It is however difficult to reign in the grandchildren. They have so many influences out there, and most are not good!

I don't watch these 'reality' shows. They appeal to a certain demographic group of which I am not a member. Notice that TV Land is bringing out shows from the 70's, so there must be a market for the old stuff.
