My Molly, a black mini poodle had her shots. The vet said her teeth are very bad, and she is only 3 1/2. His wife told me to give her raw bones, and let her chew on them. It is the best way to clean their teeth, and I really don't want her to be toothless. My sister asked what to do if they don't want to chew on bones. She just kind of laughed and said all dogs will chew on bones. (I wondered about that, but didn't say anything.)
So I took a bone and cut off as much meat as I could and laid it on the floor with her. She looked at me like I had two heads. Now what do I do??? I thought and thought about it and finally decided because she thinks she is a person, I will treat her like a person. I took a bowl out of the cupboard and put the bone in the bowl. Worked like magic. She has been chewing on the bone off and on all day. She has quite the personality, and she really does believe she is human...

Sweet! What a well mannered girl. Raw chicken wings are excellent for small dogs and also include some good quality dry biscuits (small), this should help her retain her teeth and sweeten her breath.

I remember a story from the custodian (can't say owner!) of two cats. A friend gave her some freshly cooked fish for them, which she put in their food bowls, but the cats appeared baffled. In a light bulb moment, she took the bowls back, ran the can opener, then put the bowls back on the floor. The cats gobbled up the fish! Without the can opener, they didn't recognize it as food.
