The Northern lights are hard to explain they are almost like strobes in the northern sky Some times you can see colors other times not. they are like sunlight though a cloud on a cloudy day I guess. But even better than that they keep changing like a strobe light kind of. Like I said it is hard to describe.

My son is stationed in Fairbanks with the Air Force and he has described them to me and they must be so beautiful! I'd love to see them myself someday. Hopefully they will appear when I visit him within the next couple of years.

We checked - nothing visible in Southern WI yet. We'll be going for a drive in about a half an hour - they are supposed to be best around midnight - and away from light pollution which we have here.
I saw the most wonderfully incredibly beautiful auroras in North Dakota many many years ago.... I'd love to see that again! We have seen them here, but nothing like that was.

My sister in law and I spent about a half hour tonight outside watching them.
They were very unusual tonight. They started directly above us and radiated in all directions. They were very red tonight, and lit up the whole sky. I usually see them, where they appear to be north or west but tonight they were right above, what a show!

The first time I ever seen the Northern Lights. They took my breath away.
It was one of the most beautiful things I ever seen aside from the first look at my children moments after they were born.
