I seem to recall on the pre-show that showed their auditions, Anya said she had been *designing* clothing for a while, but only *sewing* for 4 months prior to the audition.
That I can believe. Designing, and subsequently having people create patterns from and sew from said designs, does not equate to being able to sew. Plus, the auditions were held months before the first episode, so she had more time to work on her skills.
I can see it being possible, that she has only been doing her own manufacturing for less than a year, based on my experiences with quilting.
And no, I don't like this year's cast much either. And I'm getting a bit tired of MK. I don't understand why they keep elevating crappy designs and trashing good ones.

You all have me interested in this now - set it up on TIVO to see how it all comes out! My Nice is a designer for TARGET kid clothes, never sewed a stitch untill her Senior year in highschool - she was very artistic in drawing and crafts, also did some modeling. You never know where life may take you....

She is a beauty queen and has been designing and making her own clothes for competition, so she is familiar with how clothes are constructed. I think she is fabulous.
Yes, they did all have portfolios, and on their audition interview they all showed some of their pieces. Didn't you see the first episode?

I'm a big fan of Project Runway and have been for years.
I'm not always a fan of the judges and by no means are the fashions designed for the "common" women. I think we have seen more "exciting" characters in past seasons. I love, love, love watching Tim Gunn.
Project Runway is the only show I actually remember to watch.
I love when A and E does a marathon of a season with episodes back to back. I never get tired of watching them.
