It is the VETERAN, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, who has given us the right to vote.
It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag,
It is the VETERAN, who serves under the Flag,
We can be very proud of our young men and women in the armed services no matter where they serve, and to all those that have served this country before them for the sacrifices that they and their families have made to provide all of us these freedoms.
THANK YOU to all of our Veterans and their families that are members on this Quilting Board.
I wish everyone a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend!

As a Veteran of the US Army, I thank you for this post. I am extremely proud of my military service and hope that at least one of my kids will seek out this fabulous opportunity to serve when they are old enough. I do not push this on them, but theh know how much serving meant to me.

my father was in the navy in WWII.
one of my brothers served in the coast guard.
the other was a navy corpsman, attached to a marine unit in the jungles of viet nam.
i served in the army.
my son served in the air force medical field.
so, between us we served in every branch of the military.
i also try to remember all the defenders of freedom from every nation who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us at one time or another throughout our nation's history.
thanks to all.

Actually, I have to disagree with you. It was the Founding Fathers who GAVE us all those rights. It was the VETERANS and the active duty MILITARY who INSURE that we keep those rights! I am a proud wife of a retired Sailor, the proud grandma of an active Coast Guardsman and the proud grandma of an active Airman, as well as a father-in-law, brother and brother-in-law who served. Without their sacrifice we would not have our rights today!
THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS AND TO ALL ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN!

Yes, thanks to all the veterans and especially to those serving now. As a retired vet's wife, I can tell you the road is not easy, but it is worth it. Even with cuts in our medical insurance (which, now that we are retired, hurts). I do not regret all the birthday and other holiday celebrations missed, all the difficulties of raising children with their Dad across the world. We were serving in the days before email and Skype access. I would do it again. We have such good friends from those days. Military bonds are strong and help our country stay strong.
