Vegas, Baby!

Vegas, Baby!
We are going to Vegas for a vacation in the next week. Anyone on here live there? Looking at weather reports saying temp should be around the 90's most of the day and 60's at night. I find that fantastic since it is still very chilly here in Northern Ohio, 30's.
We are used to summer heat, since Husband is a semi-Pro racer and we usually start racing in March by going to FL.
Will be staying on the Strip and doing lots of walking (we were there in '09 and sister and I WALKED everywhere, and took tram). We are renting a car for one day to go to Hoover Dam.
Anyone have any off-the-tourist-beat, yet on the strip that is a must to do or see?
Sister and I found on the internet 50 free things to see and do on the strip and we did see and do most of them. Any locals know of nice family style resturants for lunch, not looking to do buffets, since I am already 20# overweight and do not need to add more!
Thanks for any input. This is our first real vacation since our honeymoon, 23 years ago. Going racing around the country is fun, but I do not consider it a vacation!

There is a quaint casino just as you enter the Boulder city limits. It is on the left and set back a bit....the name is something to do with trains. We went there for a $5.99 prime rib dinner. No frills in this place....but the food was very good. My BFF is a local, so we find those kind of places.

My favorite was to ride the Carousel FREE!!!!!!!!. My kids had to beg me to get off so we could go to se Circus Circus..... The Public library in Vegas is Awesome. I found books that no one else had heard of in order to do a grad term paper. Food was inexpensive and good. But then I am from S Louisiana and we have the best food ! Come to Baton rouge and Cajun Country and sample the hospitatilty. Hugs

Slight correction to tesspug, sorry red Rock state Prk is WEST of Las vegas. Hoover Dam is East.
One time when i sent very detailed direction to an out of town relative. they marveled at the detail except cemetary was on wrong side of road. We had a lot of fun over that.
