Yorkshire puppy

I'm thinking of getting a Yorkie puppie, but still work 4 days a week. I'm not sure if that's fair to a small dog who is bred for companionship and needs more attention. Any of you have small dogs and are gone a lot? What do you think? We're retiring next summer and I'm thinking that timing might be better...

Yorkies are so much fun, but your pup will do so much better if you can spend more time at home or with them, especially when he/she is a puppy. I'd wait too. They're very smart and personable dogs and they enjoy attention. Plus, you'll get the potty training mastered easier. It would be hard if you're working.

I agree, wait 'til you retire. I have a chihuaha mix and he follows me everywhere. If I go out he either sits in the carport or inexplicably outside our bedroom door and waits 'til I come home. The little ones seem to bond very strongly with one person.

I've had Yorkies for about 20 years... They are very people oriented and it would probably be better like the others have said to wait. A VERY important part of getting a Yorkie puppy is the house training. Since they are so small, it is hard to tell when they need to go and IF they have gone. The Yorkie I have now has been the best house trained one I've owned... I needed hip replacement when I got her, so I hurt so much I stayed home all the time... Consequently, she also got let out on a better schedule and has done much better than the other 3 I've had. Whenever you decide to get one, you'll never regret it!
