Yummy/funny food memories...share yours?

There has been a super thread on what foods got us into trouble as kids...how about some good foods, or food memories?
One of my favourites...my mom had gone "home" for a visit 91500 miles away), so Dad was making a cake for my brother's birthday. When he was making the icing, first it was too thin, so he added more icing sugar, then it was too thick, so he added more milk. By the time he got it the right consistency to spread, there was WAAAAAAY too much for the cake. We, my siblings and I, all convinced him that he should put ALL the icing on the cake. The icing ended up being as thick as the cake!!! LOL Best cake we ever had.
What's your story?

We were on a trip one summer when my brother and I were young. We stopped in a diner for breakfast. My brother got pancakes. They put the butter on the plate with and ice cream scoop, so DB put the whole scoop of butter in his mouth. He tried to spit it out, but you know, it was butter! It went everywhere- family legend... I think he was 4-5 yrs. old... And DM's burgers were legendary, she always burned them. She is a very good cook now- in her 80's!!!

A.W.Shucks in Charleston, SC. best seafood I ever had! Even my DH loved the place and he's deadly allergic to seafood. A manager specially prepared him a Pasta Premavera that he still talks about.
Anything and everything my Mom cooks.Even when she comes for a visit, she cooks all my favorites. My Dad offered to take us out to dinner one night but my DH said he would rather have moms cooking. That's what he got!!

My dad used to make me "egg in a hole" when I was little. I make it for myself sometimes, but it never tastes quite the same as his lol. My grandmother used to make grape pie, I have never seen or tasted it anywhere else...it was yummy.

My Dad and I loved corned beef hash with a poached egg on top of it. Love, love, loved it. We were the only ones in the family that would eat it. Also, my Mom's homemade bread pudding with lemon sauce. Yum, Yum!!

When my DH and I were traveling back to Maine from Texas in the early 60's....we were young, believe me, we stopped in a diner. He ordered a burger, well done. Being from TX, he knew his beef....he took one bite, it bled, he put it down and announced to the whole diner by the highway....If I had some salve and a bandaid, I could save this critter. I tried to melt to the floor.

We lived on a farm and when it was time to slaughter the hogs (yes a family affair), it was an early morning until late night deal to get everything wrapped and put in the freezer. No matter what time we stopped though, my dad would fry some tenderloin and eggs so mom wouldn't have to worry about getting up to fix some breakfast. The next day we all slept in (until about 9)! One of many, many wonderful memories of what I know now was an idyliic childhood but at the time thought was boring! Wish I could turn back the clock and enjoy it more!

In 1965 our family was taking a road trip from Seattle to Kansas. One night we stopped for dinner and I ordered a meal that was supposed to come with onion rings. (I was 11 years old at the time.) As it turned out, the place was out of onion rings and I was very upset. To try and make me happy my dad said I could order them for breakfast. So when we stopped for breakfast the next morning, we stopped at a truck stop somewhere in Wyoming, and I ordered onion rings and pancakes. The waitress looked at my dad and said, "It's okay, just give her what she wants."
Almost every time the subject of having weird food for breakfast my mom, dad and sisters bring up that time.
By the way, they were wonderful!
