I am new to quilting and I am looking forward to learning more about it. I have sewed my whole life. My mom made all my clothes, but I never knew what she did with the scapes. I have been an upholsterer for 20+ years and have saved scapes of fabric forever it seems. Some of the fabric is heavy and some is light. But it's all beautiful. I am not a traditionalist, I like things that are a little out of the ordinary. I am planning on making my BFF a coverlet for her bed out of some of the sample fabric from an old sample book that went out of buisiness a while back. I just don't know how to really get started. Do you pick out a colour first or do I pick a pattern, what? I have a 10 year old daughter who is wanting to dothis with me and help design it. I am looking forward to seeing some of yall's work and reading some of your suggestions.

Hi! and welcome from Las Vegas!
If you have the samples, just start laying out a few on a bed to see what colors you like together, then go from there. Good luck to you & your daughter! Enjoy the creative process! :P :P :P
