I am getting deeper into a new obsession
#1
Short version of the story. It is cold, it is snowy, I just retired, I need another hobby!
I live in Liberty, Indiana. Our closest neighbor is 1/4 of a mile away, and it is our daughter and her family. I have sewed for over 50 years and have been doing machine embroidery for about 7 years. I am fascinated with all that can be done with the machines.
I have never completed a quilt. I started one and 20 years later gave the blocks I had finished to my daughter. They were hand pieced. She made a really neat bow tie quilt hanging from them.
Now I want to quilt. I want to be able to create the pieces in the hoop when possible to get the lines straight. I know how to do 8 half square blocks at a time in the embroidery hoop. It will be fast and accurate. I would like to know if there is a way to create triangle in a square blocks quickly and accurately, hopefully in the hoop. These blocks are the fins of a fish. Patience has never been one of my virtues, but I am trying.
I have made some of the top blocks and sandwiched the batting and backing. I then did a decorative stitch over the seams in the block. I will sash them using some techniques I have seen in videos. I will have some blocks that are only outlines embroidered on the sandwich.
I have been reading the forum for a few days and am really impressed with all the things I have read and seen.
Thanks
Phyllis
