Hi I just jioned also. Iam from Medicine Hat, Alberta , Canada. Iam rather new to quilting. It is a little funny how it all started. In my church. the ladies group had a class on paper piecling. Then the same group asked the members to make 12x12 squares, just one each. They would be put into "love quilts" and given to those that were going through a hard time. So I made a sqaure using me new skills with paper piecing.. I really enjoyed it. Then the need for the love quilts grew and i made a whole series of heart squares, about a doze, Next thing I knew I was put over the whole program! Then over making quilts for the local homeless shelter. I'd never even made a whole top let alone an entire quilt. Talk about learning quickly The time was short but we did it our goal was 8 quilts but we got 12 made. I have made entire quilts now but don't have one of them as they were all love quilts. so right now I'm trying to do a block a month for me and eventualy I'll make a quilt for myself.

Welcome from Pleasant Hill, CA!!
You must make one you can hang onto!! If only for inspiration!
I'd love to hear the story about how your city was named. Must be interesting, and quite indiginous...

Hi
The name of my city,Medicine Hat, comes from a Native story. There was a huge battle between tribes. The one side looked like it was going to lose and the Medicine Man ran droppoing his headress on the run. This was a very bad omen and the battle was lost. The area was then called Saamis in the native tongue but the anglos called it "Medicine Hat". They were going to change it but Ruypard Kipling visited once and said not to as it was so unique. Our area has a lot of natural gas. Kipling said this area had all Hell for the basement and Medicine Hat the exit.
