New here and question about Bernina
Hi everyone! I'm Amy and I'm new to the board and from the Dallas, TX area. I have experience machine quilting, mainly before I had kids since my life has been so busy since then! But, I'm wanting to get back into it. My mom gave me a used Bernina Artista 200 with every accessory imaginable and I have no idea how to use all of the features on it! So, my question is, should I trade in at a Bernina store for a newer machine that has the types of features that I need for machine quilting, like the 5 series, or should I just take lessons on the machine I have… are there quilters out there with the artista 200 that have made good use of it. I don't want to get a horrible trade in value for it and then end up spending a lot extra on a new one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I can answer that - you can use the 200 for quilting. Personally I would read the manual get comfortable with it and then check into some classes. I have a friend who just recently purchased a 200E (with the embroidery) and a ton of accessories and she only paid $1,000. There is a Bernina store at Coit and George Bush (in the Central Market shopping center) If you were standing out in front of CM and look across the parking lot there is a small strip of stand alone shops, they are in there. Also check out the Bernina.com website.
If you decide you want a different machine definitely sell it yourself - you get next to nothing on trade-ins. But there is nothing that a 5 series will do that you can't do with your 200.
