I just came in out of the cold. Started snowing and it is coming down fast and sticking to everything. Traffic moving slowly..and only 16 degrees here in Southwest Ohio.
Looking at the old quilts gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. Some of them appear to be similar to the Hawaiian quilts so I am wondering if these patterns are just early versions, or were they carried from the mainland to the islands. Quilts have their own particular history. Some on this site are some I am familiar with but while we dream of making the future heirlooms, there are just too many to choose from. i have one old quilt that has been identified as an early version of Carolina Lily. the new verions have stems and leaves and even baskets. How do we know what is old and what has been modified to suit the quilter? Will we ever know which ones are the original patterns? I suspect we won't,, but it is fun to think about it.

I think lots of us look at patterns for how to and then go from there; at least I do. I never use the fabric they use , I change sizes, and maybe eliminate parts. Makes every quilt unique. I think thats what people did .
I am in upstate NY brrrrrrrrr cold not snowing, if it did it would have to warm up..keep warm and dry.
