Fons & Porter episode
Last week there was an episode of F&P.....I think it is series 2700. Anyway, it was Mary hosting two women, sisters in law it was stated. They were demoing "moden" quilt they had made....looked like less than lap size, white background with one row of basketweave blocks running vertically down, off center....
has anyone else seen this? I'm sorry, but it was boring! I hope this new F&P program improves.....I like when Mary has guest hosts, but more interesting projects........

We haven't had quilt shows on PBS channel for 3 weeks. No one at the station is at liberty to say what's going on, then they ask for a donation. They said if more people in the guilds and quilting communities would donate it would be a plus. I said but you have all these little cartoon shows with no commercials. Oh well!!

I thought the quilt was okay, just modern, quick and cute. What I thought was Mary seemed to keep the show off balance. She kept commenting at the wrong times and it made the process choppy and hard to follow. When the ladies were showing their technique she made the comment several times, "this is the way we do it on this show" The way it was presented and phrased seemed a little rude since the ladies were there to show their way of doing the project. I really love the show and I try to watch each week. Mom and daughter do a great job but I think Mom is the balance to the show. Mary just doesn't seem to be comfortable with herself. I also noticed this were Mary hosted a show with Patrick Lose.

I enjoyed the show with Fons and Porter over the years since I could learn quilting techniques from them. But I never learned anything from Mary because of her being a novice quilter. I do like having Patrick Lose on the show now with his techniques. They are new and a breath of fresh air at least for me.

I think Fons and Porter should stick to hosting the show themselves, or turn it over to someone who actually knows about quilting, not someone who comes off as a "know it all". Mary Fons does nothing but irritate me. Any time there is a guess, she's the one who ends up doing all of the talking, while the guest is probably wondering why they bothered showing up at all. I've seen her do that with Patrick Lose, Sue Hauserman but I think the worst was when Jenny Doan was a guest. That talented and creative woman couldn't get a word in to save her soul, but instead had to stand there smiling, while Miss Know-it-all did all of the talking. All of these folks have a vast knowledge of quilting but weren't allowed to pass any of it on because Mary monopolized the whole program. The show definitely needs an over hall.... the sooner the better.

At least now I know it's not just me who is uncomfortable watching Mary as the host of the show......she tries too hard...and I think her theatrical background (acting) greatly interferes with her hosting ability. I really want it to be successful, as it's the only one around! Time will tell
