How batiks are made
I knew that they were made in Bali using a wax process (like writing names on Easter eggs), but never knew about the process of various dyes and applying the wax.
Interesting video showing Moda Batiks.

Thanks so much for posting this! I've never noticed this on their site. What a long and detailed process - wish I'd been counting the steps as I watched. Do you think this is actually how the thousands of yards of batiks are made that we buy off the bolt? I can't even imagine that being so. If it is then I'd like to quietly say we should be paying at least 3 times what we are!!!

That was very interesting. I never knew it was such a labor intense project. I felt bad for the guy making it. Thinking all the time watching he is probably only making pennies for doing it.
Thank You for the link and for the learning experience.

When I was in Thailand 3 years ago with Overseas Adventure Travel, we visited a family whose business was making batiks and selling clothing they made from the fabric they produced. I TREASURE my scarf and pants that I bought and yes, they were EXPENSIVE even without a middleman! Thank goodness for credit cards!
