The new Olfa Ruby Anniversary rotary cutter
I got one today in my Sew Sampler Box. I am a little disappointed with it. It is very light weight compared to the other straight cutters like the Splash. The tab to open is harder to use, the tab does not slide easily, you have to push down and then up. The color is maroon not a red ruby color to me. I wouldn't recommend it over the other Olfa cutters unless you just want the color choice.

Good to know. I haven't used this style in ages (prefer the Olfa safety style), but was seriously considering it after I saw it advertised. Red. Gets me every time, lol. Now I can forget about it.

I got mine too and on reading your post took mine out of the package. Opens fine bu closing it isn't smooth. The weight feels the same to me but I need to compare it with my other ones.
The Jolly Box for Christmas was a huge disappointment to me. Nice fabrics but all the rest junk! Not worth the high cost.
I do like most of their regular boxes though.

I also just received my Sampler box. Was very excited. I know for the price some of the items, they can be a little disappointing, but I am guessing they are also sent to us for trials.
I put some of the items in my travel tote for all quilt retreats and classes. Sometime when you buy one of the items off of a shelf they can be a lemon, so then I don't feel that I really have then paid full price. I joined to enjoy and be surprised and if ever I start to get really disappointed than I can quit. Not every box can contain what one expects.

I agree with you drdolly- they don't have a crystal ball to know what every single subscriber wants. I enjoy getting them. It's a lot of fun and when it isn't I'll just cancel.
But I won't get the Jolly Box again.

I used the new cutter last night. It is lighter then the Olfa pink and aqua Splash cutters I have. I have to push down on the tab and then push up on it to open. No big deal but different then the way the others work so it took me a few tries to figure it out. I think I am more disappointed in the color. I was expecting a brilliant red with maybe some sparkle after all the hype I read about it.
I stopped getting the Special boxes but like the Sew Sampler regular ones. It's fun .
