"Quilt In A Day" an opinion on their fabric please
#1
Hi ladies
I live in Australia and after a tip from this board, have really enjoyed watching Elleanor Burns videos in her theatre.
I've just discovered they have an online shop, "Quilt In A Day" and am eager to purchase some of her fabric, partly as a thank you for all the free videos I have learnt from and partly to develope a nice little stash.
Her prices, at least in Aussie terms are dirt cheap - $3 to $10 a yard.
Do any of you ladies shop there? If you do, can you please give me a recommendation?
I want to buy one of her books, some rulers and fabric and am excited - but I'd hate to place a nice order if the fabric isn't very good.
I really appreciate this board's help.

they sell a wide variety of brands, so it isn't really a matter of assessing "her fabric".
there are a few brands that sell primarily in shops which do not impress me. (mind you, that is a purely personal opinion. if i named them, i'm sure many others would say they love those brands.)
what i have learned to do is to haunt her clearance pages. i buy only one yard of any brand i'm not personally familiar with. since the sale prices are so low, even if i am not wowzers over something, i know i still very definitely got my money's worth.
i make note of those brands i like and those that didn't thrill me and shop accordingly.
in the years i've been ordering from her site, i remember receiving only one fabric that was a total disappointment. everything else has been anything from a very good value for what i paid up to a fantastic bargain.

Most online stores sell from many different makers being that it is alot cheaper I would order what I wanted and usually I am happy with the quality and just accept the accassional bad one I know the prices of fabric in AUS would definatly chance it

The fabric with here name on the sevedge - or designed by Eleanor Burns is printed by Benartex. Other is a mix of many companies. I have been to a warehuse and saw a large order going out to her shop and it contained many top brands.

Thank you PatriceJ, christina d and Holice - do any of you have a "line" or "printed by" suggestion?
There are just so many. I find many only have a yard left on the bolt - I wonder if this indicates they are the "good ones".
Anyway, thanks so much for your help.
I notice she's now opened a new shop just called Eleanor Burns. - I love her videos but I'd hate to go to a "Block Party" she's so corny :smile"

I've been to her store and her tent sale that she has during the Paducah Quilt show. I've bought fabric from both places. I have not purchased from her online though - but I can't imagine that the quality is much different from what she sells in her shop.
Most of the fabric were quality weaves/prints - a few that I fingered were not. Just like any other LQS.
I skipped her show. I'm not into "corny" :)

I have been to her tent sales in Paducah a number of times, all the fabric I saw is first rate. She has a reputation to keep up in order to stay in business so the fabric she uses is what she sells. You won't go wrong buying her fabric. Try one order and decide from there if you want more.
I have watched her videos on public broadcasting for years, have many of her books and find her instructions easy to use. She is a bit goofy in person but she is an actress at heart. Takes all kinds to fill this world, heaven help us if we were all alike. She is one smart woman and overcame many hardships to get where she is. Trust her.
