Is there a maximum for how far you can float the thread from one area to another when hand quilting?

I don't float very far. There come a point that it is less work to knot off and start at a new location. I'm sure it is a personal preference.

I usually try not to go much more than an inch or so.

It depends on how much I have left to do and how much thread is left on the needle.

You don't want it to pull when it's washed, be easy on yourself and knot it off and rethread.

As far as the needle reaches comfortably without compromising the top.
