This is precisely the problem I'm having. All large large prints and flowery. Flowers are nice but not so much for a guy, at least not for my son.
Sadly (for me anyway) Asian fabrics are dwindling in popularity. There aren't near as many lines available now as there were several years ago, especialy now that Kona Bay is no longer in business. Most of the newer Asian lines are floral inspired, very few koi fish. Your best bet is probably Etsy. Also most Asian prints are larger scale prints with focus motifs averaging about 4" to 5". The few older lines that I have that had Koi in them would not translate well to smaller precuts like JR. Most of mine the fish are at least 3 or 4" in size and some considerably larger. In all my years of collecting Asian inspired fabrics, Koi were the hardest to find and I only ever found one print where the fish were small. Good luck in your search, there are several sellers on etsy who specialize, or at least seem to, in Asians.

Check these out. There's not so much of the bamboo and fish but you could do the same at other fabric sites.

I've found some current fabric I love, and I don't consider it very feminine, look for Trans-Pacific Textiles like this set:

I'm trying to get fabrics with an asian theme for my son. I would like a jelly roll, but not successful finding one. I prefer the fabrics to have the japanese fish, bamboo, and maybe some dragons but mainly fish. I do want it to be scrappy so a jelly roll would be great or layer cake I would like to. Looking at fabrics many are the beautiful florals but that's sort of famine. Unable to find this and open to suggestions.
One of your best bets (in my opinion) for Asian prints would be eQuilter. https://www.equilter.com/category/241/asian-collections

Quiltingshorttimer.....Are there any shops in KC that carry Asian? Since I'll be there for the show I might as well look. There is a shop in Columbia, MO, Appletree, that has some. Of course, they used to have much more. But they still have more than most shops. There's also one here in St. Louis (The Quilted Fox) that probably had and has more than any I've ever seen. I believe her favorite is also Asian. I'm looking for the chrysanthumum(sp) on a black background, and some neutrals. I couldn't find it when Asian was popular, so...........

The other piece is black and gray with 3 inch red, green and blue koi (no name on selvage).
