Baby Lock Serger BL3-407
A friend has offered me her mother's BL3-407 Serger. We don't know how old it is or much about it. I do not have a serger and am interested in this. Since everyone on this board is so helpful and knowledgeable, I would like any and all opinions. She thinks there is an instruction book/manual with it, but is not sure. Suggestions? Comments? Thanks a million.

I have an old (er) Baby Lock serger similar to the one you're looking at. The only difference seems to be that mine has 4 threads. I still use it and have no problems with it. In over 15 years, I've only had to have it serviced once, and that was when I hit a pin hiding in some fake fur! I've thought about a newer one, but why? This one just keeps going, going, and going!

I have a Baby Lock Imagine 4 thread serger that's probably a bout 15 yrs. old. Personally, I wouldn't want anything but a Baby Lock serger, mainly because of it's ease of threading. Previously I had a Singer but it was a nightmare to thread. Not familiar with the BL3-407, but it should be good. If I were to get another one, I'd want one with a cover stitch. Is the one you are considering in good working order? And a reasonable price?

Thanks for the info. It would be n/c as long as I can use it; if not, she will give it to another person that would use it. She thinks it's in good working order, but apparently it is an older machine (perhaps 15=20 years old). Glad you mentioned the ease of threading as I've heard others talk about how hard they are to thread and adjust tension. I have no idea how to use a serger, but can learn from friends I guess. My friend doesn't sew and got this when cleaning out her mom's house.

I would take it in a minute and find the manual. Threading it can be daunting but with the instructions and a nice long pair of tweezers you can thread it. Also some models have the threading map on the front that helps a great deal. Have fun with your new toy.
