I am such a newbie that I don't have a grasp of all the quilt block names so that I can find what I am looking for.
I want to make a quilt that is fairly easy for a beginner and incorporates several colors. My color scheme is varied shades of purples and blues and I actually have approximately 14 different shades to choose from.
I love a Navaho type design or something geometric that will incorporate a number of these colors. I don't want to do a scrappy, too many tiny blocks to worry with right now plus I want a larger design or one with a lot of strips. I am afraid I can't line up the strips good enough yet to make the quilt look even. I tried that with the Night and Day quilts by Jinny Byer (not sure that is the correct name). Suppose to be a good beginner quilt but way too small and hard to line up the strips.
I tried the various free sites but there are so many blocks on the one, I don't know what to look for since I am not familiar with the names. So far, I have not been able to see the reason for the names of some of these blocks.
Can anyone give me some advise?

Have you checked out quiltville.com? Hundreds of free block patterns, and they are rated by skill level. One 'pin' the easiest, etc. etc. One easy block I have done is called Antique Tile... it was in the 12" block section, but possibly in the other sizes also.

This site might not have the one you are looking for now
http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/AlphaBlockList.html
but they do have lots to choose from.

The best list of blocks I've found is http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html
I am doing Cotton Reels for my first project. If you look at page 2, Hannah's I am using that layout. I am doing it in a country look.

I recommend that you have a browse through About.com:Quilting which is a site i keep coming back to.
I've just made my first grecian square block and that was fun. This URL has a simple but (I think) lovely quilt using grecian squares.
http://quilting.about.com/od/blockof...n_square_3.htm
Good luck and let us know how you go.
