Bernina 1000
#1
I have read a lot on here about Pfaffs & Berninas and now I have a chance at a Bernina 1000--at what I believe to be a good price!! Possibly even a GREAT price!
Does anyone have or has anyone had this model? Any pros or cons you could share would be greatly appreciated!!!
It does have the stitch regulator!!
I am going to see it in the morning.
Thank you!
Susan

I am not familiar with that model. I have an old (24 years) 910 and it has never, honestly, never given me a problem. Every time I sit down and sew, I am amazed that any type of machinery can work so well for so long. I have had it cleaned and tuned up occasionaly and I clean it and oil it. It is a dream machine. I have recently thought that I would like a new machine that has some of the "bells and whistles" that this one doesn't have, but I would never get rid of this one. As much as I love my machine, I don't know if I will ever be able to afford a new Bernina again. If you have a chance to get one at a good price, and it does everything you want it to, I would say "go for it".

Can you tell me more about your Bernina 1000. What do you think is a good price for a used portable? Does it do a blind hem stitch? zigzag? button holes? hem denim jeans? I can't find much information on line since it is an older model.

I have a Bernia 1000 Special....not sure if it is the same machine you are looking to buy. I have had mine for at least 15 plus years. I have a feeling it is NOT the same machine you are looking at since yours has a stitch regulator with it. Mine is pretty much a basic machine...button holes....zig zag....I have sewed on it with just about everything from silk to denium...I used to make rag dolls and dolls clothes...have made one quilt on it and working on making another one...I don't have a walking foot for it and don't know if one is even avaailable for it. From what I have heard form other Bernia owners...Bernia's are work horses and hold up really well.
