borders are all a matter of taste...try folding fabric in the widths you are considering and laying them out to 'audition' ... you'll have to decide for yourself what frames the quilt, what moves the eye and what colors coordinate well with your blocks...the designing part is the fun part... enjoy... watch the even numbered borders, they can be hard to pull off but it is do-able...No Wrong Way to Quilt....

You've asked a question that can't be answered properly without more information. Usually the inner border is thinner than the outer border, but the width of both depends on many things, including the size of the top. For a bed quilt, a 7" outer border might be just fine, but for a wall hanging it would probably be disproportional. The number and width of the borders might also depend on the design of the top, and it often depends on how big we want the quilt to be. If you could show a picture it would help.
