Brainstorming for a military quilt
Hello everyone,
My husband is in the military and has been begging for his own quilt out of his old uniforms. I have picked the pattern I want to do I believe they call it the "Cracker" quilt pattern. I just can't think of the perfect color that would make this quilt look like no other one...I wanted to use a color that is not already in his military uniform colors...but what would that color be? thinking...thinking...thinking ?? ideas?

I have been collecting my husband's and mine uniforms for a few years now and I still haven't decided on a quilt pattern. You could use pieces from all of his old uniform sets to give it more color use. I have had a recurrent thought to use the uniform as a needle turn applique quilt using a bunny hill or heart variation pattern. I would call it love and war, but I would need to sit down and draw something though.

I might try to find out if there are any colors that are significant to him related to his service or add yellow in to signify the time you were separated due to service. Otherwise I'd pull out the black or beige and match it up with some solid Kona cotton.

might want to check regulations on old uniforms. might be a bad thing to do that. like cutting up a flag to makw something with it. as for a color why not a burgandy. or maybe his fav color. a batik in a blue would look good. especially if you get two or three shades or other colors in this t.post a pic when done would love to see it.

Which service is he in? Maybe find a panel with their emblem and use it in the center of the quilt.
I like the idea of flying geese flying around the emblem.
Or a star pattern. You could make the center square and the star points our of camie and use black for background.
Different services have different colors for their dress uniforms. Army - dark green with a light green shirt. Navy - dark blue or black with a white shirt. Air Force is a medium dark blue with a light blue shirt. Marines have the dark blue with the red stripe on the pants.
I googled military quilts for ideas:

I think combining some of the military colors in like from and awards, badges, navy blue, air force blue, navy and coast guard white, marine red, white or blue. Incorporate airplanes, tanks, parachutes, etc. There are all kinds of things you could put in it so it would be just camo. Can't wait to see it finished and what your DH thinks!!! God bless...
