What are 33/8" squares? I don't think it's a typo as it is repeated thruout the pattern directions.
Here is a link to the pattern: http://www.favecrafts.com/Quilting/B...rings-Creative
Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

I never cut eights, if I can help it. I round up, and even add some to make a half square triangle. I would much rather have more so I can square it up than have too little because I sewed the seam too small.

After checking the site and reading the cutting instructions I would say it is what most have already stated you would cut 64 3 and 3/8" squares, I do think it is a typo, with the spacing left out there. You could definitely go to the designer and ask. I had a pattern about 3 yrs ago that really confused me. I ask 4 other quilters and we were all reading it the same. I contacted the designer and she wasn't very nice, she sent an email and suggested that I didn't know anything about cutting fabric, and commented that I must be a beginner, that perhaps I should try a pattern for beginners. I was furious! with her email comments. I fired back (ugly me) that I had been sewing which I have, since I was nine, and that I am definitely not a beginner, that 4 other longgggg time quilters had read the pattern the same way I did, and that perhaps she might rethink her directions when giving them out to the public. I didn't hear back from her. I normally don't do such a thing, but it just made me so hopping mad, I charged in before I cooled down, I don't get angry very often, but she certainly blew my lid off with her tacky remarks.

Using the designers method of placing one fabric on top of the other, drawing a line, then sewing 1/4 inch on either side of the line, cutting apart creates two half square triangles. Rule of thumb is to add 7/8 inches to the finished block size. So for finished 2 1/2 inch block, add 7/8 inch = 3 1/4 inch cut block. My guess is that the designer is adding a little extra to allow for squaring up the block or assumes a generous 1/4" seam line. . Using the same method to make quarter square triangles draw 'X' then sew 1/4 inch on either sides of the lines. Cut into four blocks. To the size of the finished block, add 1 1/4 inches. So you would need to start with 3 3/4 inch block. For 3" finished. Start with 3 7/8 (3" + 7/8") block for half square triangle and 4 1/4 (3" + 1 1/4") inch block for quarter square triangle. Hope this helps. Reason for using these methods is so the bias edges are not on the outside of the block.
