I have some chicken fabric which I would like to feature in the centre of a quilt and surround it by sashing and six inch squares then further sashing and the binding. Have worked out that if I have five six inch squares across the top/bottom and seven down each side with 2 inch sashing between the chicken print, the squares and the binding and half inch binding, the finished quilt would be 43" by 59" with the chicken print in the centre being 22" by 38". Does anyone know if this is the correct way to do something like this or is there another way?. Would appreciate any help and advise I could get.

By my workings you'll need a 26" x 38" rectangle of chicken fabric. 5 x 6 =30 -4"(for your sashings)=26" That is a finished size so you will need to cut at 26 1/2 x 38 1/2. Hope that helps some :D If you want to do it this size you will need to allow another four 6" squares for your corners. I get a finished size of 46"x60" :?:
