Good morning everyone.
I have been reading many of the forums and topics avidly for the past couple of weeks and my learning curve is amazing!!! Thanks to you all for posting all these wonderful ideas.
I do have a request though. I have only just managed to practise some hexagons and am really happy with the result. They look great. So now I want to do some squares too.
I was wondering if there was a pattern (a block I think its called), whereby squares and hexagons can be used together. I am looking for a very simple design, and really just want to have a go at a few new things.
I know there are many other designs out there, but I havent yet found one that combines hexagons and squares. Dont ask why.... Its just something I would like to do.
Could anyone please help me with a simple design? Or suggest size templates etc. that I would need. Remember.... simple so that even I can do it.
Thank you

You might try looking at quilterscache.com to see if any blocks strike you...or you might google quilt+hexagon to see what comes up..(search images)..and I'm bumping this up for you as someone here might be much more help than me..they just need to see your post.
Good luck! Sounds interesting..please post pics when you find what you want.

Check this out - you can put diamonds between the hexs fairly easily, or tumbling blocks would combine as well as the three pieces together form the same shape. Otherwise you'd have to square off your hexs with a triangle at each corner, then you can interplace squares of the same size.

Try this pattern. Use it like graph paper and color it different ways till you find something you like. http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/tess/hexsqtri.htm Think gemstones!
There are also hexs and triangles as mentioned http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/tess/hextri.htm
And colored examples of all shapes that tessellate http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/tess/grids.htm#hexagon
Have fun. I use this site often for my quilt designs.
(thanks for the bump, sandpat! )
