i found a used hinterberg Machine Quilting Frame with a hand speed control and a template board of vines on craigslist. she wanted 500-, i offerred two and she accepted i will be picking it up in a week or so (she's a couple of hours from me)....
soooo, for awhile i'll be using a dsm with it. is this a decent price? any tips/concerns to be on the look out for? it's my first foray into quilting with a quilting frame....

I bought a used homemade frame that uses a DSM from craigs list about a year ago. the womens husband had made it for her but she finally got a longarm. I love, love, love it. There was a learning curve but really was no problem. I can load and complete the quilting in less time than it took me to baste a quilt. NO MORE BASTING, its great.

How does that work? I have no space for a long arm but I want to machine quilt up to queen size quilts. How do you do it with a DSM? Can you send me a pic?

Check the Hinterberg website. Their frames come in two different sizes. One fits the harp on DSM machines; the other is for deeper harps such as the Voyager 17 midarm. I know you can't fit a larger machine on the smaller carriage; don't know if the larger carriage works with the usual harp size of a DSM (about 8 or 9", I think). In any case, it's a great price!

We have a Hinterberg frame and like it. It came with our used Voyager 17 and we traded only the machine in for a Fun quilter from Nolting and it fits on my Hinty frame. We would have liked to get the metal frame also but we saved $2000 by keeping the Hinty. It is a good frame, very sturdy.
