I've made lots of bags and totes and have never used iron-on pellon (just didn't have any). I've used whatever batting pieces I had left over from other projects, usually Warm & White. They finish up a little softer, but they hold up well with use. (My DGD uses hers for her laptop).

So you use cotton batting and not polyfill?? I used some batting in a small table topper and it was heacy hahaha... Oh well, guess I will learn someday what goes where. I do have some cotton batting I could use for the tote, never thought about it... Thanks for advice. :)

I just make my pockets out of the fabric doubled. I've never put anything in between but that's an idea.
Oh the batting I use, W & W, is 80/20 I think. I wash my purses and don't want that shrinkydink look to them. (I also use this in all my quilts; never used 100% cotton--I know that's a mortal sin to some here LOL).
Do you use anything in the straps or handles? I haven't cause they're like triple fabric and I haven't had any stretching or ripping but I'd like to know what you all do.
