HOWEVER-------I cut on the grain binding across the width generally, then sew together with a bias seam.

One thing I will say is that she is having to scissor-cut her tube from the right end of the tube - and she's right handed, so that's not very natural.
If she had made the first diagonal cut across the FQ in the opposite direction, she would then be cutting the tube from the left end - for a right-hander, this is a much easier way to cut - you can hold the edge of the tube with your left hand and cut with your right. :)
If you're a right hander, it's probably not as natural or comfortable to hold the tube with your right hand and cut with your left.
