DD wants to learn how to quilt!

I am so excited....my daughter wants to learn how to quilt (31 yrs). She lives about 5 hours away from me in Chicago, so this will be fun teaching her long distance! I already know what I am gonna get her for Christmas too....cutting mat, rotary cutter, ruler, some FQ to practice on and maybe a couple patterns. She is the only one of 4 girls who wants to learn. It makes me think that she really does like the things I've made her. Now she has to talk her DH into buying her a sewing machine....LOL.

That is fantastic. I am one of four girls as well (I am the youngest). Our mom taught us all to sew and I am the only long-term sewer left. However, I am now teaching the oldest sister how to quilt (she only sews hems and dog coats and rarely at that). Unfortunately, I think the other two are a lost cause.

That is great. Out of 5 sisters, I am the only one who sews and quilts. One other has a sewing machine, but no time to do anything with it at this point. My daughter took lessons online last year to learn to sew - wasn't interested when she was young.
I recently picked up a used machine for $40 at a garage sale. You can get some great machines from people who no longer use them.

I did some sewing in HS. Did nothing during my 20's and picked up quilting in my early 30's. Now I am about to teach my 9 year old how to sew. I too believe that we get smarting in the 30's and want to pick up on what we have been missing. Good for her for wanted to start and it sounds like your are going to get her going in the right direction with the Christmas Gifts

I have 3 daughters, 2 of which sew very well, including quilting. My youngest daughter learned to sew, but doesn't have the interest that her sisters have. All 4 of our granddaughters also are learning to sew and I'm happy to say that I've been involved in teaching them.
