Design Wall

Design Wall
I finally got around to make a design wall - 8' X 8'. Now I'm wondering why it took me so long. I love it! I put two different layouts of D9P, about 4 blocks each, on it and asked DH which he liked better. Normal answer would have been, "I don't know - why do you ask me these things?". He had an opinion and I think it's because you can see it so well. Have no idea why I waited so long.

I kept reading about the different ways people made design walls to decide what would work for me. Mine is two sheets 1 1/2" foam insulation, 4' X 8' each. I covered them with 108" wide cream flannel. I used thumb tacks on the back to hold the flannel. Some people tape the flannel, staple it. I did tacks so if needed, I could take it apart to wash the flannel. Might add one more sheet. I'm not going to mount them at this time. I got the 1 1/2" thick so if I don't mount them on the wall, they won't bend. Right now I'm camped out in the dinning room quilting. New house, trim, lights yet to be done in my quilting area. It will get done in the fall.

Yep, that's how I did mine! Has all of my Dear Jane blocks pinned on it while I'm working on QAYGing it! Nice and big and I didn't even add fabric, just the foam and pins.
Love being able to look at it in my living room! (I live alone)

I bought a Disappearing Design Wall that I saw advertised in a quilt magazine. They would be easy to make yourself. Here is a picture of it rolled up where it hangs out of the way above my closet It rolls into the wooden box and you don't even see it. You tug on the edge of it and pull it down and there you have a nice big design wall. I can roll it up and get into my closet when I need to and keep it down when I'm sewing.
