Do I need to oil my Janome 6500?
Today I was cleaning out lint from the bobbin case and noticed that the little holes that are usually "moist" are now dry. Do I need to add a few drops of oil?
Do you ladies with a 6500 oil your machine? Is this necessary? I've never done anything to it except clean the lint out. It is due for a service, but I want to finish a couple of bindings before I take it in.
Thanks!

Yes, you should oil the wick that is under the bobbin case. It usually looks like a piece of lint, but it's actually the wick. You should just put one drop of oil there, and then sew a length of stitching on scraps to make sure no oil ends up on your real sewing. I've never had that happen, but I've always stitched a bit after oiling. You may notice that it's a lot quieter after oiling.

I think I have used one drop of oil in the 7 or 8 years I've had my machine, and it has never needed servicing. I have the 6600. My guy says keep it clean and there is really no need to take it in until something happens with the computer components.

As Linda said. you should put ONE drop of oil on the wick. (If you poke it and it is dry, it needs oil.)
Also you can put a drop on the shaft that makes the needle go up and down. I have had Janome machines for years - models 8000, 760, 6600P, 7700P.
The drop of oil is recommended on the Janome 6500/6600 Yahoo Chat group.
Just make sure to use oil sparingly.

i have a janome 6600, every 5 bobbins i clean & add a drop of oil...i even place a drop on the needle shaft...my dealer says anywhere theres metal to metal is safe to oil...i do sew on scrap fabric for a few rows making sure no oil gets on a project...im amazed at how much lint gets in there...i do like my janome...just hard finding a new dealer as the local went out of business...sad...there is an online janome group..do you belong?...they have a great reference library online for members to access...and a lot of knowledgeable users participate....monica in tx

If you don't put a drop of oil in that wick under the bobbin case, you made hear the bobbin rattling and jumping out of place. Before I found out about that **** wick, I actually ruined my bobbin case when the machine needle hit it and went right through the side when the case was jumping out of place. (And no it doesn't tell you to oil the wick in the manual!)
