Do you shy away....

...from making certain kinds of quilt patterns? I shy away from patterns that have a lot of white/light background. I think it has to do with the actual quilting. I'm nervous about finding a design to fill in the light background and that any quilting 'boo-boos' will show up too much. So I'm hesitant to attempt a pattern if it has a lot of light background, even if the light areas are what makes the pattern look so lovely.

For me it's anything that has an overabundance of points and seams to match up. Simple works well for me and the "basic" type patterns are so versatile too.
Also the simpler patterns can be done so much faster. I like to see rapid progress on projects.

I stay away from diamond shapes. I did a quilt that was a whole bunch of diamonds, all sewn by hand because the points just would not line up by machine no matter how careful I tried to be.
I haven't done a diamond since then.

I don't like large empty spaces either, cause my quilting isn't that great.
I don't do curves, paper piecing, applique, embroidery, or Y seams.
There are still lots of quilts to make without all that stuff. I do like stars and dont have a problem with points anymore since I make my blocks oversize and square up.
