Does it ever bother you that your work can look commercial?

The last few things I have made look good. But at the same time they look almost commercial in that there are few "hand made" features. It kinda bothers me that anyone would look at my creations as commercially made cause they are good. Am I the only one??

I want my projects to look good, but also handmade... I think it is a good thing/bad thing LOL I guess in the planning, we need to add some "hand made" touch to each quilt, so there is no question as to it being store bought or not. :D:D:D

If you look at commercial stuff closely, the workmanship is horrible. I don't think I have ever seen a quilt from Penney's and find it any good. If they are hand quilted the knots tend to be on top and the corners never match.

No worry about my quilts being mistaken for looking commercial. LOL I do make tote bags and purses that people can't believe I made them. I am a perfectionist on those but not on my quilts. I don't know why.

I too, always have enough flaws that no one would make that mistake. However, I have seen commercial quilts with mis-aligned seams and stitching that was wonky.
I feel that since you are your own strongest critic, you have to do what you can live with.

My DM gave me a store bought quilt last December and it started coming apart at the seams 2 months after I started using it. I don't know why she bought it she knows I make quilts. Anyways I have never had a home made quilt do this in such a short period of time.

I have to agree. I was looking at one at my MIL and she didn't want to wash hers because she was afraid it would fall apart. The seams along the side of the bed were already straining just from people sitting on the bed. So, I am SURE yours are much better than any commercial quilts. Good for you!!!!

I have the capabilities on my machine to do some so I'm going to.
The beautiful quilts I've seen on this board have changed my thinking :)
Please don't anyone take offense, especially when you read the sentence above!!!!!!! :D
CJ- maybe your Mom bought you one of those quilts b/c she didn't know they weren't quality made and knew you liked quilts and thought you'd like one. My sister bought herself one only once. I gave her such a lecture that I think she didn't just to shut me up. She doesn't quilt and doesn't know anything out them lol
