Fabric Cutters - Your Choice??
#1
The biggest problem I have with quilting is cutting accurate squares and saw on this board today where someone mentioned the Accuquilt GoBaby and how great it was. I'd like to buy one but want to get your opinions on the pros and cons of each first. The prices vary a lot online from $139 on the Accuquilt site to $77.00 on Amazon. Thank you so much.

There have been many posts on Accuquilt. Go up to the search feature and type in Accuquilt. I have the Go and I absolutely love it! I don't utilize it as much as I want to (I'm in school full time, accelerated classes so I don't have much time for anything right now)

I have the Go and the Go Baby. My DD borrowed the Go Baby and I know I won't get it back. She love it, mostly for applique shapes for DGD's tees, pillows, and banners for all her groups. I would be lost without my Go. I can't cut accurately the same thing twice so the Go is a must for me. I paid full retail for it three years ago and would buy it again. I have about all the dies for it, bought at sales and a stock pile of cutting mats bought when I found good sales. I'd throw away my rotary cutter before giving up my Go.

There are many youtube videos how to use the Go with tips and hints how to save fabric. I draw a 1/4" line around the die blade and have only a 1/4" waste for each cut. Never cover the whole die. The demos show a lot of waste because it saves time to cover the die. Use common sense.

When you cut with a rotary cutter, you have to re align every few cuts to get back on the grain. This is about the same amount that gets wasted with a die. As BellBoo stated, you can mark your die with a sharpie (use a metallic one for dark/black foam). this will help position fabric for maximum use.

If you get the baby you have to be careful when you buy the dies. The baby only takes I think it's up to 6" wide, but you need to know when you buy dies.
It doesn't come with any dies so the you need to figure out which die you want when you buy your baby. Unless you find a special.
With practice you can get your waste down to just a little. In the beginning you may have more waste, but you can also make crumb blocks for awhile.
auntpiggylpn is right, there have been alot of discussion about the Go and wasted fabric. Do a search and find all the tips that have been presented.
I won a go off the accuquilt facebook-they have a drawing every friday and for 7 months every friday I entered.
